The Boyne Bridge, located on Durham Street in Belfast, is a historic structure dating back to the 1930s. It features Art Deco detailing, including concrete reliefs, alongside its riveted steel construction.
In October 2024, Translink confirmed that work to sensitively dismantle the bridge will begin on 12th October. Durham Street will be closed for up to a year to facilitate the process. The project aims to preserve key elements of the bridge for future arts and heritage initiatives
Once the Boyne Bridge is dismantled, the area will undergo major public realm upgrades, including the creation of a new public square, Saltwater Square, and improved accessibility with step-free access, pedestrian routes, and cycle lanes.
