The Arches Centre is a mixed-use building located at the corner of Bloomfield Avenue and Newtownards Road. Historically the building has accommodated ground floor retail, including long-standing occupier Wyse Byse and other local businesses and office, storage, and temporary studio space on the upper floors.
In April 2024, a planning application (LA04/2024/0675/F) was submitted to Belfast City Council for the redevelopment of the upper floors.
In April 2025, planning permission was granted for the change of use of the first and second floors to provide 39 apartments, a second-floor extension for 6 apartments, and the construction of a new third floor with 19 apartments, delivering 64 social housing units in total. The ground floor commercial units will remain operational and unaffected.
