Casement Park is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) stadium located in West Belfast. The stadium opened in 1953 and is currently derelict.
In 2009, plans were unveiled to transform Casement Park into a modern stadium with a capacity of 40,000. However, the project was halted in 2014 after a successful legal challenge by local residents.
In 2016, Ulster GAA unveiled revised plans for a smaller stadium with a capacity of 34,500. Planning approval was granted in July 2021.
In October 2023, it was announced that Casement Park would be one of the ten venues to host matches for the 2028 European Football Championships, which are set to take place across the UK and Ireland.
In September 2024, the British government confirmed it would not provide funding for the redevelopment of Casement Park in Belfast ahead of Euro 2028, citing rising costs and the risk of not completing the project in time for the tournament. The stadium, derelict since 2013, was intended to host five Euro 2028 matches.
